Mi Saksham – Rights and Support for Single Women

Introduction

Mi Saksham is a social organization working for single women in Maharashtra and across India. Our goal is to empower single women mentally, economically, socially, and educationally. The term 'single women' includes widows, divorced women, adult unmarried women, single mothers, and women living without family or social support.

Background and Need

The number of single women in India is rapidly increasing. According to the 2011 census, there were approximately 43 million single women in India, of which around 5.7 million were in Maharashtra.

Although these women receive some sympathy from society, there is a lack of policies that truly empower them. Government financial aid and schemes exist, but many are short-term or insufficient. Often, these schemes do not reach women effectively. Therefore, independent and dedicated efforts are required to provide single women with education, employment, mental support, and social respect.
